Keith Pennicott-Bowen’s side had won their four previous games, but came unstuck against a team who have now sealed an incredible 12 successive victories during a march to fourth place in the table.

The Robins were missing star striker Shane Cooper-Clark as he served the final match of a three-game suspension, and they fell behind in the 16th minute at The ASM Stadium.

It was Ben Gray who put the hosts in front, although Bracknell nearly levelled matters just eight minutes later when influential captain Sam Whiting saw his 24-yard free-kick strike the left-hand post with the goalkeeper beaten.

But that was as near as the Robins came to finding the net, and the Oxfordshire side sealed the points when Ellis Hercules netted in the 77th minute.

The contest was also the final game of a suspension for key defender Andre Gray, while recent midfield signing Scott Drummond-Bayne also returned to action after overcoming an injury suffered before the New Year.

Bracknell remain ninth in the table and will look to bounce back to winning ways when they travel to neighbours Binfield for a second-round Reading Senior Cup tie this Friday night (7.45pm).

The victors will take on the winners of the game between Thames Valley League sides Westwood United and Rotherfield United in the next round.

The Robins were knocked out at the semi-final stage by eventual champions Wokingham & Emmbrook last season.
