The Robins finished the month with three wins from four - including three clean sheets - to go fifth after six games in the Hellenic Premier.

A shaky start that saw no win in the first three outings of Carpenter’s reign is a distant memory after a series of impressive results.

The Robins won 5-0 at Wootton Bassett and 3-0 at local rivals Ascot United, and they ended August with a solid win at home to Reading Town.

And Carpenter is hopeful that with his squad now looking stronger than ever, the recent upturn in fortunes can be the catalyst for a successful season for the club.

“I’ve been quite honest in saying that I was looking forward to getting August out of the way,” said the Robins boss. “And now we’re here and we’re in a good position.

“It was nice to have a full squad on Saturday and I even had to leave two players out which I don’t like doing but it gives you options.

“And in the end we won the game due to the substitutions that helped change the game. Now we’ve got a squad available then hopefully we can push on and make the most of that.” He continued: “You can never account for injuries or weather but it’s nice to have the choice at the moment.

“Apart from the 5-0 win at Wootton Bassett, we’ve not won games at a canter but we’re scoring late which is pleasing as it proves we’ve got the fitness levels to go all the way.” Carpenter admits that his squad must play every game like a cup final to compete, but is fully confident that his side have the numbers and ability to handle the challenge.

He added: “Every game will be a battle but if we can play as we have done recently then I don’t see any reason why it can’t be a successful season for us.

“I looked at the league table and we’re fifth but I actually thought we should be higher after the loss to Brimscombe & Thrupp.

“That was a blip but in a way it might be a blessing as it gave us a reality check and we’ve bounced back with two wins.

“If we carry on as we are, we’ll have a successful season. For a club like us, that means finishing higher than we did last season, which was 13th, and showing there’s real progression.”
