IN a disappointing and somewhat subdued performance, Bracknell Ladies 1sts lost 2-0 to Reading 2nds in Trysports Division One.

Reading put early pressure on the Bracknell defence forcing errors, which led to a number of penalty corners - the first one was well defended by keeper and player of the match Lyndall Halkyard, stretching to keep the ball from the net.

However Reading opened the scoring in bizarre fashion when in the aftermath of another penalty corner the ball appeared behind the goalkeeper, half a metre from the goal line.

Libby Mound picked it up and in an effort to clear the ball towards the sideline, hit her team mate - Lucy Williams’ foot - which then deflected the ball across the goal line.

Bracknell won a couple of penalty corners of their own but were unable to convert and even up the scoreline before the break.

In the second half, Reading mounted a number of attacks which were thwarted by last ditch Bracknell defending, good saves from Halkyard and some luck which included inaccurate shooting from the Reading attackers.

Bracknell had a number of counter attacks down both flanks and came closest to scoring when Lorna Palmer’s cross flashed across goal but no one was able to deflect it in.

Reading sealed the game with a well-struck penalty corner strike.

Bracknell Ladies 2nds were comfortable 3-1 winners over Scarlet Runners 1st in Trysports Division Three.
