Bracknell Bees skipper excited by 'fresh spark'

CAPTAIN Rob Lamey credits a shake-up of the lines for giving Bracknell Bees a 'fresh spark' in recent weeks.

Since returning to full strength against Swindon Wildcats in early January, Bees have improved markedly as an offensive and defensive unit.

They followed up home and away wins over Wildcats with even more impressive victories against title-chasing duo Basingstoke Bison and Manchester Phoenix.

Lamey, pictured right, believes the catalyst for the success was the coaches switching the lines and altering who is on the ice together at various stages of the match.

"We take a lot of heart from the way we have played this year," he told the News.

"The coaches have changed all three lines around to give us a fresh spark and it seems to be working. We are enjoying our hockey, which you do when you are winning usually.

"In our last five games we have lost just once. We have been at full strength, our new import [Pavel Strycek] has settled in really well and is a solid player, and Carl Ambler is full of confidence, as we all are."

Although Bees' recent run of form has not seen them climb the English Premier Ice Hockey League table, it has cemented their spot in the play-off positions.

They have also closed the gap on sixth-placed Swindon to just a point and ensured they are still in touch with the top five.

"We always said the aim was to make the play-offs but with the results we have had I think we can look higher at fourth or fifth," commented Lamey.

"Every game is tough in this league but we have beaten Basingstoke and Manchester so I don't see any reason why we couldn't do the same again."

Next up for Bees is a trip to Basingstoke on Saturday evening (6.30pm f/o) followed by a home game against Swindon the next evening (6pm f/o).
