Seventeen-year-old Hornets prospect Gregory was called up to the first team last weekend in the absence of Petran, who has left the club to move to Kazakhstan, and Lewis Turner, who is on international duty in Ukraine with England Under 20s.
And although thrown in at the deep end against title-chasing Manchester Phoenix, the young defenceman did not look out of his depth.
"Marcel was one of our imports and played really well for us so to replace him, especially at this time of the season, is difficult," Lamey told the News.
"There aren't many top players without a club right now and those that are you have to wonder why, so the management certainly won't be rushing into anything.
"They want to make sure whoever comes in is right for the club, we don't need to rush, especially when you have players like Jordan able to step up and play. There is no need to panic."
