BRACKNELL Bees were humming a happy note at The Hive on Sunday, writes Dave Wright.

The players broke into tune as they returned to their dressing room following a hard-fought 4-3 win over Hull Pirates.

“It’s a bit of a tradition to have a bit of singing after a game,” said match-winner Scott Spearing. “A nice sing-song lifts everyone’s spirit.”

And no-one had reason to sing louder than the forward, who netted the winning goal with one minute 48 seconds left on the clock.

It was his second strike of the game, having opened Bees’ account before seeing them fall 2-3 behind.

Carl Thompson brought the scores level just before the 54-minute mark to set up a grandstand finish.

Spearing said: “I was pleased to help the team out with my two goals.

“It was nice to be able to offer something more to the other things that my role requires.”

The 31-year-old endured a goal drought last year and it took him time to find the net this season.

“I think that is four in six games for me,” he added.

“At the beginning of the year I wasn’t seeing much ice. But with a lot of players missing now, we have a short bench and I am getting a lot more ice time and playing a more important role.

“The more ice time you get, the more chances you are going to get.

“It’s nice to have a bit more responsibility on your shoulders as I enjoy it.”
