BRACKNELL Bees held off a brave comeback by Guildford Flames to maintain their good form with a 4-3 victory in the English Premier Ice Hockey League on Sunday.

The Bees made it four home wins from five at The Hive this season, aided by a fast start, which saw Vanya Antonov put them 2-0 ahead inside 12 minutes.

Frantisek Bakrlik extended the lead in the 17th minute, only for the visitors to hit back immediately with a Matic Kralj effort.

However, Bracknell started the second stanza superbly, and Milan Kostourek made it 4-1, aided by an assist from Jan Bendik.

Kevin Phillips collected a Kralj pass to cut the gap shortly after, and Danny Meyers made it 4-2 with a little more than 18 minutes remaining in the final period.

But the visitors were unable to breach the Bees’ defence again, giving Lukas Smital’s men a second win of the weekend.

Bracknell had previously secured their first away win of the campaign after completing an excellent 7-2 victory at Hull Pirates on Saturday night.

The Bees started superbly and took a fourth-minute lead through Kostourek, although they were then denied for the remainder of the first period by an outstanding display from Hull netminder Jon Baston.

A quick-fire trio of goals early in the second period put Bees well in command, though, with Antonov grabbing the first.

Scott Spearing made it 3-0 just 47 seconds later, and player-coach Lukas Smital extended the lead shortly after.

Pirates got on the scoresheet at the end of the second stanza when Mario Mjelleli finally found a way past Alex Mettam in the Bees net.

Bakrlik netted 20 second into the final period before Cameron Brownley cut the gap to 5-2.

However, further goals from Kostourek and Colin Fowler completed the win.

Bracknell will hope to keep up their good form when they welcome Milton Keynes Lightning to The Hive this Sunday (6pm).
