FRANTISEK BAKRLIK led the scoring with a hat-trick for a rampant Bracknell Bees side which hit double figures against a sorry Hull Pirates on Sunday night.

Vanya Antonov and Matt Towalski chipped in with two goals each, while Callum Fowler, Matt Foord and Tom 'Ziggy' Beesley also netted as the hosts ran riot against the English Premier Ice Hockey League newcomers.

A special night for Bracknell not only saw the team pick up their second win on home ice in succession, but also witnessed player-coach Lukas Smital become the highest point-scoring player in EPIHL history.

In playing his part in assisting efforts for Fowler and Foord, the Czech forward took his individual tally to 747 points, surpassing the previous leading record set by former MK Lightning, Guildford Flames and Basingstoke Bison shooter Gary Clarke (745).

Yet what turned out to be a successful evening for Bees started on a rather disappointing note, as it was the away side who stuck up an early advantage in just the 52nd second when Lee Bonner saw his tame effort from over on the right squirm under the grasp of netminder Alex Mettam and over the line.

Bees' response, though, was immediate, with Bakrlik and Alex Barker going close, before replacement Pirates' netminder, 16-year-old Ashley Smith, was beaten by Antonov after good work between Lewis Turner and Milan Kostourek.

Bees were in front two minutes later as Bakrlik picked out Smital, where the coach played a gorgeous pass across Smith to the far post, where Fowler finished.

Bracknell were now dominant but were in the ninth minute as Hull tied up the scoring through Warren Tait.

The hosts went back in front when - with Pirates' Mario Mjelleli sin-binned for holding - Kostourek and Bakrlik combined to play in Antonov, who finished tidily.

Pirates levelled again early in the second stanza as Craig Thurston struck from a central position to draw his side on level terms.

Hull, though, were not tied for long, with the capitulation beginning on 31.48 when Towalski opened his account for the evening, driving a low shot inside a post from out on the left.

Kostourek this time took the assist.

Bees were then celebrating a fifth goal soon after, albeit in rather fortuitous circumstances.

Exiting the bin having sat out a tripping call, the puck slid nicely to Smital, who hit a first-time cross-rink pass to an unmarked Foord, who took a touch to compose himself before firing past Smith for a 5-3 lead.

If Smith was enduring something of a baptism, his - and the Pirates' - evening was to get a whole lost worse; shipping in five unanswered goals during the final 20 minutes as Bracknell continued to turn the screw.

Goal six arrived on 44:36 through Bakrlik, who joined the list of scorers when surging down the right wing, faking a shot to deceive Smith and then knocking the puck into the roof of the net.

Bees supporters were on their feet for a seventh time in the 49th minute, and they were this time celebrating Towalski's second goal of the game.

The forward made it 7-3 when touching home the rebound after an initial Kostourek strike from the blue had been parried by Smith.

With a second home win of the season practically in the bag, Bracknell were now smelling blood - and the goal fest duly continued.

Boasting the extra man due to Hull captain Jan Platil receiving a two minute penalty for boarding, Bakrlik had the time and space, from the blue line, to pick his spot, pinging an unstoppable effort into the top corner for a powerplay goal.

Moments before this, however, Scott Spearing and Jonathan Kirk found themselves with a time out having dropped the gloves, with the pair spending a combined 10 minutes in the bin.

With both sides back up to full strength, though, the prolific Bees were notching up goal number nine.

And it was calmness personified for Beesley, the forward showing great composure beyond his young years when skipping past a helpless Smith and tapping the puck into an empty net.

The goal was once again set up by Bakrlik, who was now leading the evening's individual stats with six points.

So it came as no surprise when he went on to complete the hat-trick, delivering on the jubilant home support's calls for a 10 goal when waltzing his way to the ironwork before selling Smith a deke and wrapping up the scoring in composed fashion.

The summer arrival from Manchester Phoenix now tops the scoring charts in the league this season with 14.

There was still time for Spearing to drop the gloves once more, this time trading blows with Jamie Cobley in the centre of the rink, but the fight was never going to overshadow what was a convicing night for the home side.

The man of the match awards went to Bakrlik and Bonner.
