What made the Bees’ weekend even more impressive was that they won both games at ease without conceding a goal.

The first game was on Saturday and was the much more difficult of the two as the Queen Bees travelled to Hull in a must win game against Diamonds.

It was a tense first period with both teams having chances but failing to break the deadlock as nerves threatened to overcome the visitors.

But Queen Bees stepped it up in an impressive second period and dominated - though they had to wait until 38 seconds from time to take the lead.

Veronqiue Laramee Parquet assisted Alice Lamb to put Queen Bees in control at the end of the second period.

The final stanza ended just as well as the second one had as Chrissie Newman doubled the lead just two minutes into the period.

Bees were in total command and added a third when Lauren Summer fired into an empty net after Kingston had pulled their netminder in a bid to salvage the game - but it wasn’t to be.

The 3-0 victory meant if Queen Bees beat Steathem Storm on Sunday they would be crowned champions – and that’s exactly what they did in a mammoth 12-0 win.

It took just two minutes for Natalie Aldridge to net her first of four and Bees never looked back.

Louise Adam netted a hat-trick, Newman grabbed a goal and two assists, Parquet made three goals and scored one herself, whilst Kim Lane and Katie Girdler notched a goal and assist apiece.

Summer completed the scoring as Bees entertained the watching crowd at the Hive with a brilliant display of fast ice hockey, securing the title with consumate ease.

l There was one moment of sadness on what was a fine day for the team as Queen Bees Captain Victoria Graichen-Cunningham completed her last game at the Hive, having announced her retirement following 20 years of sterling service to the club.

It was the perfect way to go out for Cunningham, sealing the title and grabbing an assist in the 12-0 romp as she went out in style.

The Queen Bees are at Guildford Lightning next Sunday in the Elite Cup final before competing in the National finals the week after.
