BINFIELD continued their relentless march towards the Thames Valley League Division 4a title with a convincing 107-run victory at White Waltham, writes Richard Ashton.

James Collett (69no) top scored for the table-toppers in a solid team batting performance, Tom Andrews (36), Chris Morgan (35), Duncan Wessels (35) and Will Sennett (31) also among the runs as the visitors racked up 283 after choosing to bat.

In reply, Waltham captain Chris Metherell (48) batted well, but Wessels (3-27) and Andrews (3-29) proved too good as White Waltham were knocked over for 176.

Binfield are 27 points clear of Boyne Hill 2nds at the head of the table – and 41 clear of third-placed Sulhamstead – ahead of their home game with relegation-threatened Bagshot 2nds this coming Saturday.

In Division 6b, Binfield 2nds kept their own title hopes alive with a three-wicket victory at home to Finchampstead 4ths in a low-scoring thriller.

Finches won the toss and chose to bat, but their innings never got going as Kamal Gupta (6-31) and Paul Edginton (2-7) combined to dismiss the away side for just 112, Gareth Biggs top scoring with 24.

Binfield lost the in-form duo of Steve Jeffrey and Richard Higginson early, leaving them 18-2, James Bewick and Liam Bulteel the wicket-takers.

Dom Mathias and Tim Vines steadied the ship with a third-wicket stand of 34, the partnership only ended when the former became the first of Cameron Ellis’ four wickets, caught by Callum Longstaff.

Ellis (4-19) ripped through the middle order to leave Binfield wobbling on 83-7, but Vines (36no) finally found a capable ally in captain Paul Edgington (26no) as they helped their side over the line in 24.2 overs.
