TIMOTHY Shin was crowned champion in the East Berkshire Stag – a 36-hole scratch amateur competition.
Castle Royle’s talented youngster (+3 hcp) shot an opening round 70 with his one-over-par effort leaving him two shots adrift of leader Archie Smith from Bearwood Lakes after the morning round.
However, Shin maintained form in his second round, recording a second one-over-par 70 to finish on two over-par (140), winning the tournament by two shots from Alexander Nicholls (+2 hcp) who plays at Goring and Streatley.
Nicholls shot rounds of 73 and 69 to finish as runner-up (142) on countback from East Berkshire’s Tom Lawton (1hcp) who carded a 70 in his second outing.
Peter Handcock (+2 hcp) from Harleyford recorded the best score in the afternoon with 68, one under-par.
The East Berks Stag was first played in 1976 with Shin following in the footsteps of previous winners who include Major winner Sandy Lyle.
