YOUNG opening bowler Lewis Sharp was in devastating form as Wokingham annihilated Shipton Under Wychwood by 10 wickets in Division Two of the Home Counties Premier League, writes Richard Ashton.

Sharp made the early breakthrough as he bowled Shaun Cross for two, and Ian Muirden then trapped Ian Harris lbw before Sharp had Dee Jarvis caught behind for a duck to leave the away side 4-3.

Charlie Miller was the third man to fall without scoring when he becamse Sharp’s third victim, and Simon Myles then got in on the act by removing Lewis Marstin for a 19-ball blob.

Captain Anupam Sanklecha was caught by Paul Dewick off Myles, Ian Lewis fell to Muirden (2-15) and Myles (3-10) then removed Adeel Rehman to leave Shipton 19-8 and in danger of posting the lowest score in the history of the league.

However, Ben Norgrove top scored with 13 not out, sharing a stand of 16 with Scott Harris before the latter was bowled by Sharp (4-13 off 10 overs) to make it 35-9.

A further 17 was added for the final wicket before Shaun Miller was caught by Stuart Parson off Dewick to leave the Oxfordshire routed for a mere 52.

Wokingham then rounded off a professional performance by knocking the runs off without loss in 12.3 overs, Parson ending unbeaten on 16 and James Bird on 23, aided by 16 extras from Shipton.

Wokingham travel to Dinton on Saturday – with the Buckinghamshire side shot out for just 51 before Datchet raced to victory in only 6.3 overs last weekend.

In Division 2b of the Thames Valley League, Wokingham 2nds were on the wrong end of a 137-run pasting at Beaconsfield.

Charlie Carter grabbed 3-33 for the Oaks, but useful knocks from David Heavyside (69) and former Berkshire man Harry Stephens (41) helped the home side post 255-9 in their 50 overs.

Wokingham slipped to 67-6 in reply, and despite Matthew Loxton’s 31 from 27 balls, they were bowled out for 118.

Ed Fox-Smith made an excellent 78 for Wokingham 3rds, but it proved insufficient as they lost by four wickets to Sonning 2nds in Division 5b.

The Oaks looked to be in a strong position after posting 266-7, but Sonning batted well to reach their target.

Duncan Atkins (4-44) and David Bishop (3-45 and 78no) did the damage for Wokingham 4ths (192-2) as they cruised past Kidmore End 2nds (190-9) by eight wickets in Division 7a, winning with nine overs to spare.
