Champions Fernhill completed a Bracknell Town & District Sunday League double by defeating Golden Farmer Rangers 5-1 in the Senior Cup final at Larges Lane, writes Dave Wright.

With a side containing several Hellenic League players, they generally outclassed their opponents who had finished third from bottom in the Premier Division.

Before the game, there was a minute’s silence in memory of former player and manager, Richard Shaw, who had died earlier in the season.

The Easthampstead pub side are now in the hands of Nick Carpenter, but he saw his defence hammered from an early stage in front of a crowd of around 150.

Mitchell Parker fired Fernhill ahead with a superb shot from the edge of the area after 13 minutes and four minutes late he set up the second goal for Charlie Evanson.

Parker and Evanson were also involved in the move that led to Josh Lawrence making it 3-0 with only 21 minutes gone.

Golden Farmer were reduced to shooting from distance, but they lacked power and were easily taken by keeper Ashley East.

Lewis Burns added the fourth from the penalty spot on 33 minutes and both he and Parker rattled the woodwork in quick succession.

But in stoppage time Fernhill conceded a penalty, enabling Dave Matthews to pull one back for Golden Farmer.

In the second half, there were chances at both ends. Most of them went the way of the champions, although Carpenter’s side looked more threatening than they had before half-time.

In the 57th minute Fernhill sent on Sanchez Commock and eight minutes later he curled home a free-kick from 20 yards for his side’s fifth goal.

It finished off a good week for Commock, who the previous Monday had netted both goals as Binfield defeated Thatcham 2-1 in the Hellenic League’s Floodlit Cup final.

Fernhill midfielder Elliott Rushforth was voted the man of the match and his side now have their sights on a treble as they are also through to the Aldershot Senior Cup final.

Last week, title-winning Fernhill thrashed Bracknell Cavaliers 8-1 for their 12th win in 15 games.

Division Two champions Woodley United were awarded an away win against 3M, while Ashridge Park Royals defeated bottom club Bracknell Saint-Germain 3-1.

In Division Three, Hope & Anchor lost 3-2 to Berkshire United, but had earlier beaten Bracknell Athletic 2-1 in the Subsidiary Cup.

Bracknell Titans won 6-3 against Bracknell Royals in the same cup competition.
