JMA retained the Berkshire Schools FA’s Walsh Cup (Under 18) by defeating Forest 2-1 at Thatcham Town’s ground last Thursday, but were made to fight all the way by the Winnersh school.

The Reading side, winning the competition for the fourth time in the last five seasons, took an early lead through Ali Haseeb and stayed ahead until midway through the second half when Massimo Giamattei brought the scores level from the penalty spot.

There were chances at both ends before Toni Petrache won the game with a superb curling shot into the net from outside the area with 15 minutes remaining.

Forest finished strongly and only the crossbar prevented Ryan Annets from grabbing a late equaliser.

Blue Coat play Charters in the BSFA’s U16 cup at Thatcham this Thursday (4.30pm ko) and the tie will be followed by an under-14 girls county league game between Berkshire and Hampshire.
