ASCOT United’s 11-day rest did little to re-invigorate them as the Yellamen slipped to a 3-0 defeat at sixth-placed Brimscombe & Thrupp in the Hellenic League Premier Division on Saturday.
The opening stages were fairly even with Ascot grateful to goalkeeper Lee Allen on a hat-trick of occasions, but it was a soft goal after 28 minutes which gave the hosts the lead; Karl Nash’s free-kick drifting through everyone unchallenged and in at the far post.
Earlier, Cameron Gyeabour had fired over for Ascot, although he might have been awarded a penalty when he appeared to be held back in the build-up.
Ross Seldon missed with two decent headed opportunities for Ascot early in the second half before Gyeabour chipped over from Callum Carlisle’s through ball, but the visitors’ misses would be punished.
First, Jack Smith headed home from a corner in the 65th minute before Sam Blackie tucked away a late third – and another miss from Gyeabour sandwiched between those goals summed up Ascot’s afternoon.
Ascot United – who have dropped to third-bottom in the table – host Thatcham Town on Saturday (3pm), before Binfield are the visitors at the Racecourse Ground next Tuesday (7.45pm).
