READING FC striker Yann Kermorgant could make his long-awaited injury return at Sheffield United this Saturday – with John Swift and Paul McShane also in the frame (3pm ko).

Kermorgant is yet to make an appearance for the Royals this season after suffering a serious injury during the summer.

Last season’s 19-goal top scorer suffered a major hip and groin problem during pre-season training and was forced to have surgery.

But the 35-year-old Frenchman has now reached full fitness and could be involved in the weekend’s clash at Bramall Lane as Royals search for back-to-back victories in the north following last Saturday’s 1-0 win at Leeds United.

Reading manager Jaap Stam confirmed Kermorgant has a chance of being involved against the Blades, saying: “Yann is doing well in training sessions and we will have a look at him on Friday before deciding what to do.

“He’s feeling very good which is a big positive for the team.

“He’s the type who always wants to play, and he often does with a bit of pain somewhere.

“Paul McShane is the same. He’s been training with the team and we will assess him towards the end of the week to see if we can take him into the squad or if it’s better for him to do more work.”

Bracknell News:

Paul McShane could also feature at Bramall Lane.

However, Stam stressed he will not put the long-term health of his players in jeopardy for the sake of Saturday’s clash against high-flying Sheffield United.

“They are two big players given the character and mentality they bring to the team,” he added.

“Everyone knows they are very important, but it’s also very important for us that we can keep them fit to the end of the season and not risk it for just one game.

“If you are not completely match fit you can get tired towards the end and pick up another injury, then you are out another two or three months. We need to be very careful.”

Bracknell News:

John Swift has recovered from a double hamstring injury.

Nevertheless, England Under 21 ace Swift looks certain to be included in the match day squad after a double hamstring strain picked up in the EFL Cup defeat to Swansea a month ago ruled him out of the last four games.

“He’s doing a lot better,” stated Stam. “He’s been doing full training sessions and his hamstrings are good. We will look at it on Friday to see whether he will start or not, but he’s probably going to be involved in the squad.”
