MANAGER Roger Herridge might have made one of his best Binfield signings for a long time, writes Dave Wright.

Former Oxford United Under 18 player Charlie Tuttle has made an instant impact and was the Moles’ match-winner last Saturday.

Son of former League professional David Tuttle, the young full-back scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Oxford City Nomads at Hill Farm Lane.

It came from a 25-yard free-kick in the 52nd minute.

“He was the best player on the pitch again,” beamed Herridge.

Following their opening day defeat at Wantage, Binfield were securing their first Hellenic League win of the campaign.

“To be honest, it wasn’t a great performance, but the result was the most important thing,”

commented the manager.

“We needed to get points on the board especially as we don’t have a midweek game this week and we’re back to the FA Cup this Saturday.”

In addition to Tuttle, Herridge has made another shrewd move by bringing Josh Howell back to the club from league rivals Thatcham Town.

The winger enjoyed two particularly successful seasons for the Moles before switching to Thatcham, but a serious injury put his Kingfishers career on hold.

His opportunities at Waterside Park look restricted this season and he decided to return to his former club.

This Saturday, Binfield are home to Horndean in the preliminary round of the FA Cup, looking to follow up their excellent 4-3 win over Chichester two weeks ago. But it won’t be easy, as the Hampshire side have won three Wessex League Premier Division games so far.
