ASCOT United crashed to a 4-0 defeat at Abingdon United last Saturday, although the scoreline failed to reflect their overall performance with two goals coming in the last few minutes.

Abingdon had signed two Oxford United youngsters on a month’s loan last week and they scored all the goals.

Graham Bryan struck in the 18th and 43rd minutes, while Dejon Noel-Williams came off the bench to bag a brace in the last two minutes of the game.

The latter had a brief spell on loan at Burnham last season when his father, former Watford ace Gifton, was the manager there.

Ascot were due to play their first home league game against Burnham last night (Tuesday).

This Saturday the Yellamen visit Wessex League Premier Division side Hamworthy in the preliminary round of the FA Cup, having crushed Ringwood 6-0 in the previous round a fortnight earlier.

  • EVERSLEY & California opened their Combined Counties Division One campaign with a 3-2 win over newcomers FC Deportivo Galicia.

They had the better of the first half, missing a penalty and hitting the crossbar before conceding a 25-yard goal on 40 minutes.

The Boars hit back in the second half to lead 3-1, with the visitors getting a late second.

Eversley were scheduled to visit Ash United last night (Tuesday) and on Saturday they are away to Bedfont & Feltham, while next Tuesday they host Bagshot.

  • BERKS County begin their Thames Valley League Premier Division campaign with a home game against Westwood United this coming Saturday.

Elsewhere in the top flight, newcomers Wokingham & Emmbrook Reserves face a tough test when they travel to champions Reading YMCA on Saturday, before facing a trip to last season's runners- up Marlow United on Wednesday.

Finchampstead and Hurst are set to play in Division One this season, while Berks County Reserves – who enjoyed a memorable campaign last time out – take a spot in Division Two.

Division Three will feature Finchampstead Reserves and Hurst Reserves , with Berks County Rovers and Hurst A competing in Division Four.
