NEIL Jones, Alan Symondson and Andy Franklin helped Wokingham win the Berkshire county triples with a magnificent 20-14 victory against a Reading side skipped by England international Robert Newman.

Sylvia Pearce and Jill Thorne lost in the final of the ladies’ pairs competition, while in the county men’s unbadged competition, Martin O’Connor won his semi final 21-14. An all-Wokingham final – to be held on September 2 – did not come to fruition as Kevin Walter lost by the same scoreline.

Clive Tarran was beaten 18-14 in the semi final of the two wood champion of champions competition, and Sandra Thompson lost narrowly in the ladies’ senior singles.

Third-placed Wokingham A finished their Kennet League Division One season with a 74-72 win at Royal Household, and Wokingham B secured promotion from Division Two with a 91-64 victory against Sunningdale as they finished second.

In Division One Central of the Kennet LV League, Wokingham A finished second after beating Maiden Erlegh 65-31. The top triple was skipped by Stuart Slocombe along with Martin O’Connor and Ken Richardson. They won by 15 shots.

Second-placed Wokingham B sealed promotion from Division Two despite losing 62-50 to Three Mile Cross B in their final game. Ted Melber along with David Andrew and Alex Thomson were the top performers with a 22-9 success.

Wokingham C lost 70-39 at Reading in their last Division 3 match and were beaten on all three triples.

In the Thames Valley Ladies League, Wokingham Acorns beat Bracknell 57-39 in their Division One clash.

The top triple was skipped by Lillian Holliday along with Elaine Herbert and Pearce. They won by 28-6.

In Division Three, Wokingham Oakapples won 56-53 at Desborough Buttercups with the stand-out rink skipped by Averil Aylott along with Joy Deeves and Marie Fielding .They won 18-13.
