BINFIELD CC’s perfect start to the Chilterns League Division One season ended after they had the worst of a draw at Wraysbury on Saturday.

Mike Staves’ men had won their opening two fixtures to sit joint top of the table, but they were forced to hang on for a draw with their final pair at the crease.

Things started well for the visitors as Tom Andrews (2-52) and Matt Hayman (3-42) made early inroads, grabbing four early wickets.

However, a superb innings by Jayesh Mohan (135no) and useful support from captain Andy Prasad (34) brought the home side back into the contest.

Staves and Jack Collett picked up a wicket apiece, but Wraysbury closed their 47 overs on a competitive 219-9.

Having put on 166 the week before, Binfield openers Chris Morgan and Sean Ennis were this time both dismissed cheaply, Prasad dismissing the former caught and bowled, while Andrew Freeman trapped Ennis lbw.

Adam Marshall (48) and Tim Vines (33) steadied the ship with a fine third-wicket partnership, while Andrews also chipped in with 47 after he came to the crease.

However, Prasad (4-36) and Liyakat Chougle (2-47) ran through the lower middle order, and it was only some brave defiance from last pair Hayman and Chris Jones which ensured Binfield avoided defeat.

Binfield welcome champions Penn & Tylers Green to the F.W.E. Goates Memorial Ground this coming Saturday (1pm).

In Division Two, Binfield 2nds recorded back-to-back victories with a 47-run success in a low-scoring thriller at home to Wraysbury 2nds.

Openers Jason Lunnon (22) and Steve Jeffery (18) both made starts for the home team before being dismissed, and that theme proved common throughout the innings as James Wright top scored with 23.

Joseph Sculley also made 20, but Waqar Afridi’s 5-39 ensured Binfield were bowled out for just 145.

Mo Nawaz took 3-35 for Wraysbury and Abdul Sattar 2-37.

Sculley then turned destroyer-in-chief with the ball, running through the Wraysbury line-up with figures of 6-39 in 13 overs.

With Thomas Nower claiming 2-23 and Matthew Nicholls and Rupert Warren taking one apiece, the visitors were shot out for 95.
