BRACKNELL Town manager Mark Tallentire was happy with the point his side secured in a 1-1 draw with title rivals Flackwell Heath at Larges Lane on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

“I thought it was a fair result,” he said after seeing the Heathens snatch a late equaliser.

“But that said, we did have some good chances with (keeper) Dan Weait making a couple of great saves at the death and a block by one of their defenders was quality as well.

“With that in mind, we felt we probably did enough to win the game.”

Bracknell gave a debut to Diak John and the 30-year-old, playing at centre-back, was the first name into the ref’s notebook for a mistimed tackle though that could well have been down to the former Hungerford player’s rustiness, as this was his first competitive game since last November.

In front of a tremendous crowd of more than 350, the Heathens settled into the game quicker than their hosts and Town’s Chris Grace was the busier of the two keepers in the opening stages.

The Robins struggled to create chances up front and it was nearly 30 minutes before they strung together a dangerous move which led to Adam Cornell shooting wide.

Soon afterwards, he was again off target when he met a cross from Jamie McClurg.

Joe Grant hobbled off with an ankle injury in the 40th minute and it was lively substitute Kensley Maloney who helped his side to up the tempo.

Bohane saw his goal-bound effort deflected out for a corner and he then found the side netting before setting up the Bracknell goal after 66 minutes when his cross to the left-side of the goal area was headed home by George Short.

Bohane, twice, and Maloney both went close before Flackwell equalised five minutes from time when Joel Jacobs, a new signing from Thatcham, curled a left-footed free-kick over the wall and into the net from just outside the area.

Town hit back with Maloney being thwarted by Weait and Bohane by a brave block by a defender, but a draw was a fair result.
