TERENCE Bohane scored twice as Bracknell Town returned to the top of the Hellenic Premier table with an impressive 3-0 win over Tuffley Rovers at Larges Lane on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

The Robins took advantage of Flackwell Heath having the day off to move back into pole position. They lead Thame United by one point from Flackwell and Thatcham, with five points separating the top four sides.

This was Town’s 14th successive win in all competitions, a run that followed a 2-1 defeat at Tuffley on November 5.

The desire to gain revenge must have played a part in what was an inspired performance from Mark Tallentire’s men.

In front of another good crowd of 178, the Robins always looked to have the measure of a decent Rovers side.

They were missing leading scorer Adam Cornell, who was in America on business, but Bohane, Joe Grant and Seb Bowerman caused Tuffley’s defence no end of problems.

On the number of chances created, Town could easily have won by a wider margin although they didn’t help themselves at times by either giving it away when in a good position or hanging onto the ball too long in attack.

Bowerman could have fallen into either category when he made a surging run down the left flank. He got behind the Tuffley defence before cutting in close to the by-line.

With Bohane lurking menacingly, Rovers keeper Dave Evans moved off his line expecting a cross, but Bowerman instead fired the ball towards the inside of the near post with the ball appearing to go off Evans’s arm into the net to open the scoring after 19 minutes.

Earlier, Bohane and Carl Davies, with a header, had both gone close, while the former also missed a good opportunity after linking up with Kensley Maloney with Town moving the ball around smartly and enjoying the majority of possession.

With skipper Davies his usual dominant self, the hosts comfortably kept Tuffley’s attacks at bay, and their only real anxious moment came when Ryan Dobbins turned onto a cross from Jamie Goodwin and shot narrowly over the bar.

Apart from one effort that keeper Chris Grace pushed aside, Town always looked the more likely side to score in the second half.

After Bohane had shot wide following a defence-splitting pass from Carl Withers, they doubled their lead on 70 minutes. Grant was fouled 20 yards out with Bohane’s well-placed free-kick finding its way past the wall and low into the right-hand corner via the inside of the post.

Nine minutes later Grant’s exquisite pass into the area found Bohane and he delightfully dinked the ball past the advancing Evans.

It was his eighth goal in three successive league games and takes his season’s tally to 27 for Bracknell, just three behind Cornell.

Robins went looking for more goals and substitute Callum Withers was not far away with a header in the closing stages of an entertaining game.

They will be looking to maintain their excellent run on Saturday when 11th-placed Lydney make the long journey down the M4 to Larges Lane.
