JAAP Stam is confident Reading FC will atone for last season’s Craven Cottage horror show when they travel to Fulham this Saturday (3pm ko).

Royals were riding high in third place in the Championship when former boss Steve Clarke took his side to west London in late October 2015.

Ex-Chelsea loanee Lucas Piazon and Orlando Sa fired Reading into a 2-0 lead, only for a Moussa Dembele brace and goals from Ross McCormack and Alexander Kacaniklic to seal a 4-2 comeback win for the Cottagers.

It sparked a dramatic slump for the Royals, who sacked Clarke a few weeks later and finished the season a lowly 17th under Brian McDermott. He was also axed in the summer.

But Stam insists there will not be a repeat this weekend when promotion-chasing Royals search for a sixth straight league win.

“I don’t know what the feeling was like in the squad at the time or if the players were working well together,” said Stam.

“I believe they were on a good run at the time and third in the league. Of course you want to keep winning but Fulham is always a difficult place to go.

“We need to be aware so that it is not going to be the same again. We want to defend well and score goals, but Reading probably said the same last season.

“It will be interesting but I don’t think our players are thinking about last season’s game.

“They need to think about how they have been performing up to now, how confidence is and stay focused on winning games.”

Liam Moore is suspended for Saturday’s clash after his fifth yellow card of the season, with Tyler Blackett likely to step in at centre-back and Jordan Obita at left-back.

Fit-again Joey van den Berg could also be named in the squad.

Stam added: “Liam has made an impact since he arrived, he has a lot of quality at centre back.

“Together with Paul McShane they make a great couple at the back.

“But Liam is suspended so somebody else will step in to fill the position.

“We have players who can do that so we are working on our shape and how we want to play at Fulham, it's going to be interesting.

“Joey van den Berg is available for the weekend and Yann Kermorgant is getting better and will hopefully train next week.

“Anssi Jaakkola is training again and will rejoin the squad, though Stephen Quinn is still out for a while longer.”

John Swift and Deniss Rakels are also recovering from long-term injuries and are unlikely to play again this year.
