CHARLIE Oakley scored twice as Woodley United defeated Finchampstead 4-1 to reach the fourth round of the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup.

United were quickly out of the blocks, forcing three corners in the opening five minutes.

However, Finchampstead were dangerous on the break and Chace Jewell cut in from the left flank before shooting wide of the far post.

With Abdul Kamara influential in midfield and getting forward, he saw a couple of his efforts blocked in the penalty area.

Woodley continued to apply pressure and good play involving man-of-the-match Greg Beckett and Kamara led to Oakley striking a low shot past keeper Chris Adams to open the scoring on 20 minutes.

Finchampstead responded and should have equalised, but the unmarked Chris Dean headed weakly at keeper Alex Reed.

Woodley started the second half strongly and Danny Horscroft had a ‘goal’ disallowed for offside before Josh Drew extended the lead following a good move involving Joe Barley and Kamara.

On the hour mark Oakley was fouled by Adams and Beckett made no mistake from the penalty spot and eight minutes later Oakley scored his second and United’s fourth.

Finch scored a late consolation goal from a Harry Swabey penalty after Joe Barley had handled in the area.

Woodley’s reward is a trip to East Berks League members FC Beaconsfield on December 3.

Both sides return to Hellenic League action this Saturday with Finchampstead hosting Didcot Town Reserves at the Memorial Ground (2.15pm ko), while Woodley United entertain current leaders Penn & Tylers Green at the Rivermoor Stadium (3pm).
