BINFIELD FC’s winless run was extended to seven matches when they lost 3-0 to Flackwell Heath at Hill Farm Lane on Monday, writes Dave Wright.

The Moles had forced a creditable goalless draw at Lydney last Saturday when 13 players were unavailable for various reasons.

Manager Roger Herridge was able to field a stronger side for the Heathens game, but hopes of his side returning to winning ways were all but over inside the opening five minutes.

Left-back Dan Bayliss, from close to the touchline midway in the Binfield half, hit over a high cross and was surprised as everyone else to see the ball drop over keeper Garry Aulsberry into the net.

“It was a bad error by Garry and left us with a mountain to climb,” said Herridge.

“We looked nervous for the next 30 minutes and that showed our lack of confidence at the moment. We’ve got players who are miles off from where they need to be.”

Matty Stockill doubled Flackwell’s lead after 23 minutes with a fine shot from just outside the area and it was nearly 3-0 when Jamie Essex rattled the underside of the crossbar.

Little was seen of the Binfield attack, but they did threaten twice late in the first half when Courtney Lawrence, having been put through by Liam Ferdinand, hit the post and Lewis Wiggins saw an effort pushed aside by keeper Dan Weait.

Herridge commented: “In the first half we gave them too much time and too much space, but the second half did see an improvement.

“We were just starting to enjoy more possession when they scored their third goal.”

That came on 75 minutes from Dan Burnell. His first effort was brilliantly parried by Aulsberry, but the Heathens substitute reacted quickly and chipped the ball into the net.

The Moles, with young George Lock making a quick impression at right back after coming off the bench and Grant Kemp working hard in midfield, kept plugging away, and were a shade unfortunate not to have pulled a goal back.

Herridge continued: “Flackwell, were very good tonight, but we allowed them to be good. We’ve got players who are probably a big bit too nice and some need to man up a bit.”

Binfield return to action at Ardley United next Tuesday.
