BRACKNELL Town’s hunger for the ball and their sharp finishing were the key ingredients in an outstanding display at Royal Wootton Bassett on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

The Robins triumphed 6-0 – their biggest win of the season – to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to 12 games with 10 of them being victories.

Manager Mark Tallentire said: “We are all absolutely delighted with this win. The dressing room was really buzzing after the game.

“This was an impressive performance from us over the whole 90 minutes.”

His men struggled to break down a defensive-minded RWB side in the first half with Tallentire commenting: “They sat back, very deep; playing a sort of 4-5-1 shape and trying to hit us on the break.

“But we coped with that quite well; I thought we were very patient. They did a lot of things in the first half to frustrate us, but we keep chipping away at them and TJ’s bit of quality from a dead- ball situation opened it up a bit for us.”

Terence ‘TJ’ Bohane, playing against the club where he started this season, broke the deadlock with a superb free-kick just before half-time.

“That goal changed things as they had to come out to try and get something out of the game,” said Tallentire. “But the second half we dominated from start to finish.

“We were very sharp in moving the ball around the pitch and some of our finishing was top drawer.”

Bohane went on to net another great goal, with Adam Cornell, Jamie McClurg, George Short and skipper Carl Davies completing the rout.

The Robins boss continued: “We could definitely have had more; it was a great performance from us. Chris (Grace) only had one shot to save in the second half – that was how dominant we were.

“Our all-round appetite to keep the ball was key to our success.

“The whole side worked their socks off. You could see the things were are trying to implement on the training ground and that obviously pleased me.

“We have been saying for a few weeks that some team is going to get it from us – unfortunately for Wootton Bassett it was them.”

Bracknell remain mid-table, but this win over the Wiltshire side who would have gone third had they won, will certainly make the other top sides sit up and take notice.

“I suppose it will, but we are not really thinking like that,” Tallentire told the News.

“We are just looking after ourselves and will approach each game as they come. We have a tough month coming up, starting with the FA Vase on Saturday (away to Croydon).

Robins were missing Alex Rodrigues, Dave Hancock and Kensley Maloney at Wootton Bassett, but their replacements all did well.

“It shows we have strength in depth; we have got a good squad of players,” added the Bracknell manager.

“It means when we do lose players it doesn’t affect the team too much, so in that respect we are very pleased how things are going. We can look at different teams and select players for different situations.”
