LUKA Basic believes Bracknell Bees need to improve their discipline and their shooting skills if they are to win matches on a more regular basis, writes Dave Wright.

Bees suffered two more defeats last weekend, crashing 8-2 at Milton Keynes Lightning on Saturday and then 4-3 to Sheffield Steeldogs at The Hive 24 hours later.

But they should have won Sunday’s game, dominating large periods and firing in 43 shots at goal compared to the visitors’ 22.

Basic scored on both days and was voted man of the match against Sheffield.

But as he said: “It doesn’t mean as much if you are man of the match and lose the game.”

The Slovenia forward added: “We battled hard, but unfortunately we were short by one goal.

“The whole team played well, all three lines, but a couple of mistakes cost us goals. Otherwise we were the better team, we deserved to win tonight.”

It was a different story on Saturday, however, with Bees conceding eight goals in a game for the third time this season.

“We played a stronger team for sure, MK are one of the top teams in the league,” added Basic.

“They forced us into the errors, there were too many penalties against us. They capitalised on them and that cost us.”

Basic remains optimistic about Bracknell’s fortunes, saying: “If you look at the beginning of the season and then the last few games, we are playing better, but unfortunately we are still losing too many games “If maybe we play with more discipline and score a few more goals it might turn for us.”
