MANAGER Mark Tallentire believed a “terrible” decision by the match officials cost Bracknell Town two points when they were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Henley on Tuesday night, writes Dave Wright.

Having netted a 75th-minute equaliser through TJ Bohane, the Robins had the ball in the net again in the closings stages, only to see it controversially disallowed after the referee had consulted his assistant.

“The ball was pulled back (by Danny Wing) so I can’t see how he (Bohane) could have been offside,” said Tallentire.

“It was a terrible decision. I thought the ref was poor, as there was also a handball in the penalty area and he gave the free-kick on the edge.”

That said, the Bracknell boss was still left very disappointed by his side’s general performance.

“We should be capable of beating sides like them,” he added.

“We were on top for most of the game and it’s two points dropped.

“There were numerous occasions when our final ball (into the Henley area) could have been better when they should have led to simple finishes and goals.

“The biggest disappointment for us was the goal we conceded, as it was terrible defending all round.”

The Red Kites took a surprise lead on 66 minutes when Grant Kemp slipped the ball through to Nile O’Meally-Newe, who went on to slip the ball past the advancing goalkeeper, Chris Grace.

Henley had been reduced to 10 men since the 37th minute when Mitch Cooper was shown a straight red card for bringing down Adam Cornell just outside the area.

They suffered a further blow just before half-time when keeper Ben Hitchens was forced off with an arm injury when going down bravely at the feet of Cornell. Andy Nunn took over between the posts.

Nunn, no stranger to the No.1 role, and his side continued to defend well and defy Bracknell’s four-man attack.

They held out until the 75th minute when Warren Baxter brought down Cornell to concede a penalty. Bohane saw his spot-kick pushed out by the diving Nunn, but the striker followed up to net the rebound. He has now scored in each of the five games he has played since joining the club.

The Robins will continue to use Sandhurst’s Bottom Meadow as their temporary home during October, as their new 3G pitch at Larges Lane is not now due for completion until early November.

Work on the clubhouse and bar will continue until next March.

Bracknell, lying ninth in the table, make the long trek to the side immediately above them, Lydney, in the league this Saturday.

Their fixture with Binfield next Tuesday has been called off due to the fact the two sides clash in the FA Vase at Hill Farm Lane the following Friday (7.45pm).

Hot-shot Ben Knight took his goal tally to seven in just two games by netting four in Ascot United’s 7-2 hammering of winless Burnham at the Racecourse ground on Tuesday.

He had bagged a hat-trick when the Yellamen defeated Tuffley Rovers 6-3 last Saturday.

Ascot, without the suspended Charlie Samuels, went close several times before opening their account through Knight in the 28th minute with Aaron Berry making it 2-0 from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time.

Burnham started the second half brightly and substitute Cheyenne Cripps pulled a goal back and moments later he was only denied an equaliser by a goal-line clearance.

However, it soon became 4-1 with Knight scoring in the 54th and 56th minutes to complete his hat-trick.

Nana Agyeman netted a second for the visitors before Ascot added further goals through Tom Hedges, Berry and Knight from the penalty spot.

Burnham had Dan Watkiss sent off for a foul on Berry.

Ascot are away to Henley next Tuesday evening.
