READING FC boss Jaap Stam is confident of adding more new faces to his squad during the summer transfer window.

Royals have made six signings over the close-season with Roy Beerens, John Swift, Anssi Jaakkola, Joseph Mendes, Joey van den Berg and Danzell Gravenberch all moving to Madejski Stadium.

And Stam this week confirmed the club have also held talks with former Netherlands, Real Madrid and Spurs midfielder Rafael van der Vaart over a sensational switch to the Royals.

The Reading manager suggested director of football Brian Tevreden could be close to sealing a few more deals over the weeks ahead.

“You will need to talk to Brian about that,” he said. “We need a big squad because we’re going to play a lot of games throughout the season.

“There are bound to be a couple of suspensions and injuries because that’s how it goes in football.

"So we need to have as many quality players in the squad as we can get. Hopefully Brian is doing his job well so we can get in some more quality players.”

Reading have also been heavily linked with Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett and Middlesbrough winger Adam Reach.

It is believed Reading are preparing to step up their interest in Blackett, though Boro are yet to decide whether to allow Reach to leave the Riverside Stadium.
