TWO late goals from Deniss Rakels and Jack Stacey kept Reading FC’s perfect pre-season record alive as they came from behind to win 2-1 at Swindon Town on Tuesday night.

The first chance of note fell to Royals as Dominic Samuel cut in from the left flank and let fly, but the ball defelected off team-mate John Swift and nestled safely in goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux's arms.

The shot-stopper was called into action again shortly afterwards as Craig Tanner collected a Josh Barrett flick-on and worked Vigouroux, while at the other end Yaser Kasim and Anton Rodgers failed to hit the target when given chances.

Samuel and Tanner then combined to create an opportunity for the latter midway through the half, but his shot went just past the far post.

Barrett then forced another top save from Vigouroux, who was then grateful to defender Raphael Rossi-Branco for blocking a Samuel effort.

The youngster was then forced off by injury – replaced by Rakels – and Royals suffered a further setback when they fell behind to John Goddard's deflected 25-yard strike on the cusp of half time.

Reading continued to dominate at the start of the second period with Rakels firing wide following good work from Tarique Fosu, although at the other end Anssi Jaakkola had to stay tall to deny midfielder Conor Thomas.

Barrett was almost set free by Tanner before Liam Kelly's free-kick went over the bar as Reading's frustration mounted.

However, the visitors levelled on 79 minutes when the impressive Tanner whipped the ball in for Rakels to turn home from close range with a tidy finish.

And Stacey completed the comeback with two minutes remaining, the winger sprinting on to a through ball before coolly beating Vigouroux to make it three pre-season victories from three for Jaap Stam's men.
