SKIPPER James Morris returns to the Berkshire side for their crucial Unicorns Championship match against Shropshire at Shifnal CC starting on Sunday.

School commitments prevented the teacher missing the 211-run win over Cheshire at Falkland CC last week when brother Richard stepped up from vice-captain.

Opening bat Waqas Hussain has recovered from injury and returns to the side.

Michael Roberts, who is working, and Martin Andersson, on duty with Middlesex 2nds, drop out.

Shropshire have won all three games so far and hold a 11-point lead over second-placed Berkshire, Berkshire squad: Ollie Wilkin, Waqas Hussain, Richard Morris, Billy Rogers, James Morris, Andy Rishton, Chris Peploe, Stewart Davison, Matt Carter, Tom Nugent, Ali Akbar, Mark Firth.

  • ENGLAND Women’s captain Heather Knight returns to the Berkshire side for their ECB T20 game against Middlesex Women at Wokingham CC on Sunday (1.30pm).

She missed the last two T20 games due to international commitments.

New Zealand wicket-keeper Rachel Priest also plays as Berkshire look to consolidate their position at the top of Division One, although Carla Rudd will continue to don the gloves for the Beavers.

Pace bowler Daisy Gardner faces a fitness check after missing the games against Warwickshire and Yorkshire due to a leg injury.

Knight and her team will warm up for Sunday’s game by playing Berkshire Under 15 boys at 10am.

  • AN excellent team performance allowed Berkshire Over 60s to secure a dramatic four-wicket win at home to Surrey on Tuesday of last week.

Andy Peters top scored with 55 for the visitors, but Jerry Snith (3-11), Richard West (3-28) and Phil Ridgeway (2-33) helped dismiss them for 155.

Berkshire’s reply was led by Ronnie Brock (54), and even though they slipped to 107-6, Ian Harvey (30no) and Bill Munday (26no) put on a fabulous unbroken stand of 49 to win the game off the final ball.

The Over 60s 2nds found the going tougher the following day as they lost by 66 runs at Sussex.

The hosts racked up 244-4, and despite Munday (47) and Chris Harding putting up some early resistance, they were bowled out for 178.

The same opponents cruised to a nine-wicket win in a rematch at Hurley on Monday.

Munday (31) and Patrick Hinnell (27) were two of only three players to make double figures in Berkshire’s 145, and Sussex eased to a thumping victory in 30.5 overs.
