READING FC have been linked with a £1 million swoop for Hertha Berlin winger Roy Beerens.

Reports suggest Royals have agreed a fee with the German top-flight club for the talented wide-man.

If the deal goes through it will almost certainly put at end to Reading's chances of re-signing Ola John from Portuguese side Benfica.

At one stage it looked as though Beerens, 28, would be joining Stuttgart this summer, but the move fell through last week.

The Dutchman had previously been linked with Nottingham Forest, but media in Germany are reporting that Reading is now his likely destination.

Beerens forged a reputation in the Dutch Eredivisie as an attacking winger who could weigh in with important goals.

He began his career with PSV Eindhoven then in 2007 joined Heerenveen, the club where recent Royals signing Joey can den Berg once played.

Beerens banged in 25 goals in 114 league appearances for the club before a move to AZ Alkmaar in 2011 where he scored 13 times in 93 league games.

He then switched to Hertha Berlin in 2014 and netted four goals in 29 games.

But it is believed the Bungasliga outfit are now willing to offload Beerens in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Royals boss Jaap Stam will cast a close eye over triallist Gaston Campi during this week's pre-season tour to Holland.

The 25-year-old Argentine defender, who plays for Buenos Aires-based Racing Club, is likely to feature in Friday’s friendly against Saudi Arabian top flight side Al-Taawoun FC.

Stam may also look to strengthen his midfield following Aaron Tshibola's £5 million move to Aston Villa, with England Under 21 international John Swift a possible target.

Royals have made four signings so far this summer with the arrival of Finnish keeper Anssi Jaakkola, French striker, Joseph Mendes, plus Dutch duo Danzell Gravenberch and van den Berg.

All four are part of Stam's 21-man squad based at Oosterbeek in Holland.

But last season's back-up keeper Jonathan Bond has not travelled due to injury, though it is believed Royals may look to offload the ex-England U21 stopper following the arrival of Jaakkola.

Meanwhile, Royals have also had three bids rejected for Southend United full-back, Ben Coker.

Holland tour squad: Al Habsi, Jaakkola, Ward, Watson, Obita, Gravenberch, McShane, Dickie, Jules, Evans, Van den Berg, Williams, Kelly, Tanner, McCleary, Kermorgant, Rakels, Samuel, Mendes, Campi.
