LONDON Irish captain George Skivington has been forced to retire due to a shoulder injury.

The 33-year-old, who joined Exiles from Leicester Tigers ahead of the 2012-13 season, made 68 appearances for the club.

During his time with Wasps, Skivington won four Premiership titles and two Heineken Cups, and he said: “I would like to say thank you to all those who have supported me throughout my playing career.

“I have been proud to captain London Irish during the last three seasons and I know the club is in good shape to return to the Premiership at the first time of asking.”

“Finally, I would like to thank my family, especially my wife who has been there for me throughout my career.”

Skivington is the fourth player to retire since Exiles’ relegation to the Championship, following Andrew Fenby, Tom Guest and Geoff Cross.

In a bad week for the club, rumours also suggest Kiwi head coach Tom Coventry may quit Exiles after dropping out of the top flight.
