BRACKNELL & Wokingham Swimming Club members produced some fine performances at the recent European Masters Swimming Championships, racking up three medals and 22 top 20 finishes.

The club sent a 26-person strong team to compete against some of Europe’s finest masters swimmers at the London Aquatics Centre, and the team did themselves proud.

Kirsty Johnson broke the British record for the 50m backstroke by 0.09 seconds on her way to winning the silver medal in the 35-39 age group.

She followed that up by bagging another silver medal in the 100m backstroke.

Peter Morris swam in the 200m butterfly and finished in 2:37:87 to secure a bronze medal.

Mike Daniell finished sixth in the 75-79 age group for 50m butterfly, with Johnson ninth in her respective age group.

Karen Bassett, Kirstie Forbes and Penny Webster competed in the 400m freestyle with the latter coming fourth.

Amy Vaal (pictured right), Bridget Bewick and Belinda Veasey swam in the ladies’ 200-metre individual medley. Bewick, competing in the 50-54-year-old age group, finished ninth, while in the 25-29-year-old age group, Vaal finished with a time of 2:39:60.

After a tough year of illness and injury, Veasey competed in the following heat and clocked 2:51:96.

John Williamson, Mark Straw and David Bell finished fifth, 30th and 35th in their respective age groups in the 800m freestyle.

Webster finished fifth in the 70-74 age group.
