OLIVER Norwood has been named in the Northern Ireland team for a warm-up match against Belarus at Windsor Park tomorrow (Friday, 7.45pm ko).

The 23-year-old midfield schemer hoped to impress boss Michael O’Neill enough to make his 23-man squad to be announced this weekend.

Northern Ireland will then play their last friendly before the finals when they travel to Slovakia on June 4, just eight days before they begin their Euro 2016 campaign against Poland in Nice.

It was not such a good week for Norwood's Reading team-mate and skipper Paul McShane, who was omitted from the latest Republic of Ireland squad on Monday.

However, Royals midfielder Stephen Quinn remains part of Martin O'Neill's squad as they put the finishing touches to their Euro 2016 preparations.

Meanwhile, Reading’s Danny Williams helped USA to a 3-1 win in Puerto Rico as they build up to the Copa America this summer.

The 27-year-old central midfielder was named in Jürgen Klinsmann’s starting XI for Sunday’s friendly and goals from Tim Ream, Bobby Wood and Paul Arriola sealed the victory.

Williams, who played the full 90 minutes, was also named in the USA squad for last night’s (Wednesday) friendly against Ecuador in Texas.

Reading FC Women

READING FC Women kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw at Birmingham City Ladies in their latest Women’s Super League 1 clash.

Royals went in search of their first win of the league campaign, but had to settle for a point at Solihull.

Reading winger Emma Follis went closest to scoring for the visitors but was twice denied by Blues keeper Sophie Baggaley.

Striker Melissa Fletcher also saw a shot well saved in the second half as Kelly Chambers’ side threatened to break the deadlock.

However, it was not all one-way traffic and the hosts were also wasteful in front of goal, with a poor miss by Freda Ayisi proving costly.

Nevertheless, Royals deserved to leave the Midlands with a point which moved them up to seventh in the table.

Reading return to action on July 9 when they travel to Liverpool Ladies.
