FINCHAMPSTEAD’S wait for their first Home Counties Premier League Division One win of the season goes on after their home game against High Wycombe was abandoned, writes Richard Ashton.

Adam Dewes and Matt Jones began slowly but steadily against former Surrey star James Benning and the pacy Jonathan Burden, taking the score to 29 before the former was bowled by Burden for 15.

Captain Dan Marles failed to get going before he fell to Cameron Parson, and Billy Rogers was trapped lbw by Garth Davson to leave Finch 64-3.

Jones (39) became Parsons’ (2-25) second victim with the score on 73, before Dan Lincoln added a breezy 22.

He was dismissed by the leg spin of Uzair Amjaid (2-26), but former Reading pair Andy Rishton (35) and Sukhi Kang (33) continued the momentum.

South African debutant Jandre Coetzee and Berkshire man Matt Carter both chipped in with late cameos as Finch ended their 50 overs on 201-7.

However, the weather intervened and High Wycombe were unable to start their run chase.

Finchampstead travel to Tring Park this coming Saturday (11.30am).

Finchampstead 2nds remain top of the Thames Valley League Division 2a table after their trip to Chesham 2nds was abandoned.

James Eaglesham (2-17), Matt Bell (2-17) and Andy Lazenbury (2-39) impressed with the ball as Chesham’s innings was cut short on 141-7 after 44.4 overs.

In Division 3a, Finchampstead 3rds lost a tight tussle by three runs at home to Newbury.

Sam Taylor (3-26) and Joe Loveday (3-30) starred as Finch restricted their opponents out to 145-9 off 45 overs, but the hosts struggled in reply.

Only Taylor (34), Kwame Appiah (33) and Tom Potter (29) got going as they were bowled out for 142.

Finchampstead 4ths bowled out Bracknell 2nds for just 40 en route to a nine-wicket cruise in Division 7a.

Gary Woodford (48no) and Ahmet Tuney (43no) led Finchampstead 5ths to 200-2, but their game against Kidmore End 3rds was then called off due to rain.

  • FINCHAMPSTEAD players starred when Berkshire Academy defeated Herefordshire Academy by six wickets at their home club on Sunday.

The visitors were dismissed for 128 in 42 overs after collapsing from 100-3.

Max Stevenson was the pick of the bowlers with 4-10 off six overs, closely followed by Finch team-mates Andy Rishton with 2-10 off seven and Craig Hodges 2-20 off six.

The other wicket takers were Ian Slatcher (Reading) with 1-24 and Boyne Hill’s Mark Firth 1-18.

In reply, Berkshire lost Adam Dewes for three, Will Harris 17, Dan Marles seven and Billy Rogers 13 to leave the total on 71-4 before 1st XI players Rishton and Euan Woods steered their side to victory in the 41st over.

Skipper Rishton made 64 off 85 balls with 10 boundaries, while Henley’s Woods remained unbeaten on 23 off 54 deliveries.

There will be more county cricket at Finchampstead this Sunday (11am) when Berkshire Women play Yorkshire.
