A DEPLETED Eversley batting line-up did well to score 235 in their Thames Valley League Division 2a game at North Maidenhead on Saturday, writes Richard Ashton.

Missing a number of their regular top order, the Boars lost Kenny England with the score on 15, but captain Chris Last (23) and youngster Tom Howorth took the total to 54 until the former was dismissed by Saeed Bukhari (3-54).

Howorth (62) played superbly until he fell to Mirban Saleem (4-70), but two more quick wickets left the Boars reeling on 137-6.

However, number eight Peter Healy batted superbly to make 47, and despite Majid Ashraf’s 3-66, Eversley looked to have posted a competitive total when Lewis Sharp was the last man out from the final ball of the 52nd over.

However, any hope the Boars had of securing back-to-back wins was ended by the weather, with North Maidenhead not starting their innings due to rain.

Eversley travel to Marlow Park this coming Saturday (1pm).

In Division 3a, the weather came to the rescue of Eversley 2nds in their game at home to Purley-on-Thames.

Opener Ibne Sayed top scored with 34, but a superb spell from the evergreen Caleb Maycock (5-26) – following on from a fine effort from Arshad Mohammed (2-23) and a pair of run outs – left the Boars languishing on 104-9 after 38 overs when the rain arrived.

Eversley 3rds’ game with Kidmore End 2nds was abandoned while interestingly poised in Division 7a.

Jon Last (22) and Vijay Nawale (26) put on 40 for the opening wicket for the Boars, but a terrible collapse saw them crash to 54-5.

Anam Rahim (29) rebuilt the innings and Kevin Manning chipped in with 23, but Eversley were bowled out for 149 in 46.5 overs. Azhar Udeen did the bulk of the damage during a marathon 23-over spell, ending with figures of 6-66.

However, the second innings never got under way due to the weather.

Eversley 4ths and Bagshot 3rds played out an enthralling draw in Division 8a.

Andy South (44) and Nick Hutchings (49) gave Eversley a solid base before teenager Alex Sharp (52) recorded his maiden league half century for the Boars.

Henry South added an unbeaten 40 as Eversley closed their 47 overs on a competitive 223-6.

Bagshot started well in reply, with Matthew Funnell and Harrison Button putting on 55 for the first wicket before the former was dismissed by Tony Critchley (3-58).

Button (54) and Matt Alexander (58) pushed the visitors towards their target, but a useful spell from South (2-40) ensured they finished agonisingly short, closing on 222-6.
