WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook produced a gutsy display to earn a Premier Division point in a 0-0 draw at Highmoor Ibis on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

And it could have been even better, with Jake Wheeler having two fine chances and Elliott Rushforth also coming close to breaking the deadlock for Sumas.

Wokingham & Emmbrook were due to host Ardley United last night, before completing their league campaign with another home game against Lydney Town.

They then continue the defence of their Reading Senior Cup title with a trip to Binfield on Monday, in what is a repeat of last season’s final and a chance for former Sumas boss Roger Herridge to get revenge.

ADAM Cornell netted four goals as Bracknell Town cruised into the quarter-finals of the Bluefin Sports Supplementary Cup with a 7-1 destruction of Wokingham & Emmbrook at Larges Lane.

The Robins were unstoppable and could easily have had more goals.

It was a much different story than the previous week’s league meeting between the sides when Bracknell had struggled to turn their superiority into goals and edged home 2-1.

Last Thursday it took them just three minutes to find the net when Seb Bowerman’s cross from the left was headed down by George Short for Cornell to turn past keeper Sean Woodward.

The relegated Sumas hit back and James Clarke brought out a fine save from keeper Garry Aulsberry before Elliot Rushworth equalised on 10 minutes.

But Bracknell were looking dangerous with virtually every attack and the goals soon started to flow.

Cornell restored their lead with a header from John Gray’s cross and the team’s top scorer completed his hat-trick just before half-time.

There was no let-up by the Robins in the second half, with two early goals in the space of three minutes.

Skipper Carl Davies made it 4-1 after Declan Kirby had headed down Gray’s cross and then Damien Smith’s long ball into the area saw Cornell chest it down before beating Woodward.

Sumas had a couple of chances through Luke Scope and Jordan Rowland, but they continued to be on the back foot and their tiring defence conceded two more goals, both scored by Ben Poynter.

Bracknell, who are the only Premier Division left in the competition, will be away to Didcot Town Reserves or Holyport in the semi-finals next Monday.

Fairford and Headington Amateurs are the other semi-finalists, leaving Robins favourites to end the season with some silverware.
