READING FC Under 18s will face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the FA Youth Cup quarter finals.

Royals sealed their place in the last eight with an impressive 3-0 win against Wolves at Molineux last Friday night.

Two goals from Sam Smith in the first half gave Royals a comfortable lead at the break.

Smith went close to completing his hat-trick in the second half, but Royals skipper Josh Barrett did net his team's third after being set up by Omar Richards.

Playmaker Barrett had a particularly productive night in the West Midlands having set up both of Smith's goals with some superb play down the left wing.

David Dodds' U18s now face a trip to the Blues, who dispatched AFC Wimbledon 4-1 in Kingston last night and are seeking their third FA Youth Cup triumph in a row.

The quarter final clash against the current holders will take place at Stamford Bridge on a date yet to be announced.

The other quarter final ties are Blackburn Rovers v Preston/Luton; Manchester City v Norwich; Coventry/Arsenal v Liverpool.

Reading U18s: Southwood, Akinwunmi, Richards, Bennett, Osho, Andresson, Frost, East, Smith, Barrett, Davis. Subs: Tupper, Holmes, Chatee, Coleman, Howe.

Reading Under 21s

ROWAN Liburd scored the only goal as Reading defeated Leicester City in the Barclays Under 21 Premier League at Hogwood Park on Monday.

Royals gave new signings Deniss Rakels and George Evans some much-needed pitch time as they look to force their way into Brian McDermott's first-team.

But it was Liburd, signed from Billericay Town last summer, who netted the winner in the 74th minute for his 11th goal for the U21s this season.

U21s boss Martin Kuhl said: “It was a good result because mistakes have cost us in the last few weeks when I think overall we have played quite well.

"We’ve had a few lads that are new to the Under-21s so they were having to get used to the pace and the tempo of the game.

“We did well to dominate the first half in horrible conditions against them because they were a strong and aggressive side, but I think once we locked horns with them our quality showed through especially in the second half.”

Reading U21s: Moore, Watson, Long, Evans (Kelly 64), Keown, Jules, Stacey, Kuhl, Liburd (Cardwell 81), Rakels (Novakovich 64), Fosu. Subs: Osho, Ward.
