BRACKNELL’S two-match winning run came to a shuddering halt as they were thumped 57-13 at Wimbledon in National Three London & South East.

It was the home side who enjoyed most of the play in the opening phases, and they took the lead courtesy of a penalty from former Bracknell player Neil Hallett.

Wimbledon then scored their first try through No. 8 Gary Crowe, and they moved further in front when second row Campbell Tait intercepted a pass and cantered under the posts.

Hallett’s conversion made it 15-0 after quarter of an hour.

Rory Greenslade-Jones’s side rallied and started to apply some pressure of their own – helped in part by the sin binning of ex-Bracknell player Joe Clapson – and Liam Hemming closed the gap with a penalty.

The visitors continued to enjoy the better passages of play from the restart, but were then felled by the game-changing moment.

With a penalty already awarded to Bracknell, the referee determined some stamping had taken place by the visitors, not only reversing the penalty but also presenting a red card to last week’s man-of-the-match, Kenny Barry.

Down to 14 men, any Bracknell come-back looked unlikely, and so it proved as Wimbledon made good use of their numerical advantage to secure their try bonus point before half time, taking a 29-3 lead into the break.

Three more converted tries took the home side to their half century, but Bracknell did manage to provide some cheer for their supporters with two late tries.

Firstly, Ben Yates went over following a swift move in the backs.

Then No. 8 Lachlan Valentine, whose work rate during the game never dropped, crossed the whitewash for the visitors.

However, a final blow was delivered by Hallett, as he crossed under the Bracknell posts before adding the conversion to round off a one-sided contest.
