BINFIELD FC have moved into mid-table in the Hellenic League Premier Division and manager Roger Herridge is confident the Moles will continue to improve as he strengthens his squad, writes Dave Wright.

Their 4-1 win over Brackley Saints at Hill Farm Lane on Monday was their third in eight days.

“We are heading in the right direction and if we win our games in hand we should be right up there in the top half,” said Herridge.

“We are certainly feeling a lot better about ourselves than we were 10 days ago.”

In recent weeks Herridge has made changes to his squad, bringing in Chris Dean, Carl Withers and Jack Gibbs while allowing Jamie Connor and Lamin Sankoh to join Thame United and Highmoor Ibis respectively.

“I think all the players we've signed will improve us,” added the Moles manger on Monday.

“Carl brings us experience that will help us, Chrissy (Dean) has come in and he was outstanding on Monday and I know Jack's qualities from the time I had him at Wokingham and he will improve us.

“There are always players who want to come and play for Binfield, but you have to make sure the players you sign will improve the team.

“We have some tough matches ahead against top sides and we have got to make sure we have the right type of players to play against them.

“There are times when players might find themselves out of the squad, but it is a matter of picking what I think will be the best team for a particular game.

“There is also competition for places and it's now up to them (the players) to show their best form.”

His side were certainly on form against the Brackley youngsters, giving their best all-round display of the season so far.

“We were never really troubled,” said Herridge. “We played some neat football, passing the ball around nicely at times.

“We went three up in the first half hour and the only disappointment was that we created a lot of other chances which we didn't take.”

Liam Ferdinand, with two, Danny Horscroft and Aaron Rowland were on target last Monday and the Binfield fans will be expecting to see more goals this Saturday.

The visitors to Hill Farm Lane are lowly Abingdon United, who have the worst defensive record in the Premier Division, having conceded 39 goals in 12 games.

Herridge added: “We expected to beat Brackley and we will be expected to beat Abingdon as well, but I am not saying it will be easy on Saturday.”
