LIAM Ferdinand starred in Binfield's 4-1 over Brackley Town Saints on Monday after receiving a late, late call up.

?He scored twice and had a hand in the other two goals netted by Danny Horscroft and Aaron Rowland.?

The striker, returning from injury, was originally named on the subs ben?ch with manager Roger Herridge intending to retain the team that had won 2-1 at Henley Town on Saturday.

But Jemel Johnson was delayed on his way down from London by train and so swapped places with Ferdinand.

"I was told I was playing while warning up before the game," said Liam, who had missed four games with an ankle injury.

It took the former Reading Town and Marlow striker just six minutes to make an impact. His effort was blocked but the ball fell into the path of winger Horscroft, who hit a low shot across keeper Dan Farrell into the right-hand corner.

Four minutes later Ferdinand doubled his side's lead after right-back Jack Broome's cross had found him unmarked in front of goal.

The Moles were now in full flow against a young Brackley side and Ferdinand missed an easy-looking chance before teeing up an opportunity for Rowland to crash a 25-yarder into the net in the 28th minute.

But if Binfield were thinking about moving into cruise control, they were given a jolt when Saints skipper Jarred Spink pulled a goal back with a superb long-range volley.

While the visitors kept keeper Nathan Silver a little more busier in the second half, the Moles continued to be the better side. They strung together some excellent attacking moves and one after 67 minutes was finished off by Ferdinand to complete his side's best win of the season so far.

By this time, new signing Jack Gibbs had come off the bench to make his debut with the former Wokingham & Emmbrook youngster quickly producing some neat touches.

It was Binfield's third win in eight days and Roger Herridge's men should be capable of securing another three points when they face struggling Abingdon United at Hill Farm Lane this Saturday.
