CROWTHORNE Ladies were beaten for the first time in South East West One as they slipped to a 35-19 defeat at Windsor.

The hosts came flying out of the blocks and and used quick hands and set moves to score three tries in the first half, exploiting the overlaps left by the Thorns to take a 21-0 lead at half time.

Crowthorne hit back after the break and Jess Irvine got her first try wide of the posts, although Holly Bentley was unable to convert a difficult chance.

However, four minutes later Windsor ran their fourth try in under the posts to all but seal the game.

Strong scrummaging from the Thorns put them back in the game, with hooker Jess Rees regularly turning the ball over.

Player-of-the-match Irvine ran two more tries in under the posts allowing Bentley easy conversions to cut the gap to 28-19, but a penalty given away by Crowthorne in the dying minutes of the game saw the Windsor pack power over the try line for their final score.
