There were mixed results for the top flight sides competing in the opening round of the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup, with Morale Madrid and Winkfield FC progressing with 1-0 and 3-0 wins against Maidenhead Nomads and Swans respectively.

However, Golden Farmer Rangers crashed out 2-0 at Whitley Tavern, FC Meta were thrashed 4-1 by New Windsor Social Club and Sunningdale & Wentworth were thumped 5-0 at Windsor Warriors.

Bracknell Manics were beaten 1-0 by Woodley United in a hard-fought contest.

Both teams looked dangerous in the early exchanges but it was Woodley who scored the crucial goal after 22 minutes when a long clearance from keeper Stephen Brearley was flicked on by Sam Cialis for Alex Bicknell to use his pace to outstrip the defence, and his finish was sublime when he lobbed the advancing keeper and found the empty net.

Woodley used the repeat substitution rule to their advantage and brought back the injured Tom Shone for goal scorer Bicknell on 35 minutes.

United just about held their advantage but it was largely due to the defensive trio of Harvey Detenon, Hayman and man-of-the-match Chris Timbers.

The home side continued to rotate their players and it was one of the substitutes, Brodie Davies, that caused the Manics defence the most problems, narrowly failing to extend their lead. As the game progressed Woodley looked more comfortable but they were still pleased to hear the final whistle at 90 minutes.

In Division One, Ryan McManus and Troy Whelan were on target for Braybrooke Athletic as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Bracknell Cavaliers, while Todd Andrews scored the only goal of the game as AFC Crowthorne beat 3M FC 1-0.

Golden Farmer Rangers Reserves edged past Sandhurst FFC 2-1, while Waverley Rangers overcame Newbold College 4-2.

Sam Jolley was on target for Hurricanes but they had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Super Reeves, and Ashridge Park collected their first three points of the season after Berks County failed to fulfil their fixture.

Cricket star Dan Marles was a big hit for Finchampstead Athletic Reserves, scoring both goals in their 2-1 win away to Bracknell Forest in Division Two.

Club 8 won by a similar margin when they took on Bracknell Falcons.

Unbeaten Division Three leaders Bracknell Saint-Germain were in unstoppable form, hammering hosts Crownwood Dukes 10-0.
