Binfield manager Roger Herridge is hoping his side rediscover their scoring form when they play two more home games in the space of three days.

The Moles were held to a goalless draw by Milton United in the Hellenic League last Saturday and were then beaten 2-0 by Highmoor Ibis in the Hellenic Floodlit Cup on Monday.

“We are just not taking our chances and this is one area where we need to improve,” said Herridge, whose side entertain Briscombe & Thrupp this Saturday and Royal Wootton Bassett next Monday evening.

“They are both important games for us and we will certainly be looking for six points,” said Herridge.

The Moles should certainly have beaten Milton as they created a string of chances on a day when the visiting keeper also produced an outstanding display.

“We had enough chances to have won by five or six,” said Herridge. “Then tonight (Monday) Highmoor were certainly better in our penalty box than we were in theirs.

“Josh (Howell) had a great chance in the first few minutes and Knighty (James Knight) also had a really good opportunity. If you don't score goals when you are on top you have big problems, especially when the opposition take theirs.”

Binfield have not fielded a settled side in recent games and made several changes on Monday

“This was an opportunity for certain players to impress; some did all right, but some didn't,” said Herridge. “Their (Highmoor) first goal came because we switched off at a free kick. We thought about defending it, but we didn't. The second goal came from another of our errors.”

Herridge praised reserve team goalkeeper Charlie Lusty, saying: “He came in and did really well and I liked the look of Jamie McCarthy when he came off the subs bench for the last 10 minutes. He didn't hide and wanted the ball.

“But I don't want to judge our side too much on tonight especially as we had some of our better players out.

“With a young side, you need one or two leaders on the pitch and we are lacking that at the moment, but lets see what happens in the next few weeks.”
