WOKINGHAM CC climbed to within three points of new leaders Kew with a 23-run success at Stoke Green in Thames Valley League Division One.

Simon Myles (89) led the way for the Oaks, and he received valuable support from Australian Matt Wicks (53) as Wokingham declared on 250-6 after 49 overs.

Stoke Green looked on course for victory as Hash Hussain (104) and Karanpreet Singh (52) took centre stage, but they lost wickets throughout and were eventually dismissed for 227.

Wokingham continue their pursuit of the title with a trip to Falkland on Saturday (12.30pm).

Fourth-placed Hurst host High Wycombe 2nds on Saturday (12.30pm).

Wokingham 2nds threw themselves a lifeline in Division 3a with a stunning 26-run win at home to title-chasing Thatcham Town.

Rakesh Patel made an excellent 67 for the Oaks, but he received little support as the hosts were bowled out for just 141. Josh Williams (7-26) was the chief destroyer as he returned career-best figures for Thatcham.

However, Wokingham captain Anthony Clapham (5-33) took it upon himself to turn the game on its head, bowling with pace and aggression to take the first five wickets of the Thatcham innings.

Alex Pearce then accounted for Callum Johnson and Stephen Bird before Richard Madgwick (2-23) grabbed a brace to leave the home side staring down the barrel at 110-9.

And there were no heroics from the final pair, as Pearce (3-21) had Chris Bird caught behind to leave Thatcham 115 all out.

Rock bottom Bracknell’s relegation from Division 4b was confirmed with two weeks to go as they lost by four wickets at home to North Maidenhead 2nds.

The Larges Lane side were dismissed for 161, and Maids knocked the runs off in 34 overs.
Bracknell travel to promotion-chasing Eversley 2nds on Saturday (12.30pm).

In Division 5b, Wokingham 3rds remain at the foot of the table and seemingly doomed following a six-wicket reverse at home to Aldershot 3rds.

The Oaks started badly and lost two early wickets before Marcus Viljoen (39) steadied the ship to some degree.

However, Wokingham collapsed to 87-6 and it was only a counter-attacking innings by Ross Bonnell (46) which helped them to the relative respectability of 150.

Viljoen and Jake Staples (3-47) made early inroads into the Aldershot line-up as they crashed to 6-2, but a match-winning 109-run partnership between Matt Pegg (67) and Sean McCafferty (38) put the visitors on track, and they completed the win after 39 overs.

Hurst 2nds kept their Division 6b hopes alive with a five-wicket success at home to Aldershot 3rds.
The visitors made a solid start after winning the toss, but the introduction of Matt Morrison (6-62) and Ian Harvey (3-64) saw the innings fall apart and Aldershot were eventually restricted to 200-9 in their 52 overs.

Alex Fillingham (83) and captain Tom Hibbs (35) shared 74 for the first wicket, and although Hurst slipped to 94-3, Connor White’s quickfire 42 put them back on track, before they eventually won in the 36th over.

Division 7a strugglers Wokingham 4ths slipped to an eight-wicket reverse at North Maidenhead 3rds.

The Oaks made 177-8 in their 47 overs, but Rizwan Hussain’s 50 put Maids on course for a comfortable victory.

Title-chasing Bracknell 2nds suffered a 67-run defeat to second-placed Reading 4ths.
Mohammed Shabbir (5-48) starred as the hosts were bowled out for 125, but Bracknell were shot out for 58.
