ASCOT United’s hopes of a lucrative run in the FA Cup were ended at the first hurdle as they squandered a one goal lead to exit the competition at the hands of Kidlington.

Jamie West gave Ascot the lead but a double from Ryan Brooks earned Kidlington a deserved 2-1 victory on Saturday.

The game was played at Bracknell Town’s Larges Lane due to the Red Bull Air Race at the Racecourse – but Jeff Lamb’s men’s cup run failed to take off against a dominant Kidlington.

Both sides were unbeaten in their two Hellenic Premier Division games heading into this and it was the Yellamen who went close first.

David Pitt’s ambitious volley struck the crossbar and Lee Boon volleyed the rebound high and wide with the keeper beaten on the floor.

Chris Grace made a fine save at the other end when he superbly stopped Lewis Coyle’s drive, before the deadlock was broken after 21 minutes.

An Ascot free-kick was half-cleared and West’s thunderous volley flashed past Sam Warrell to give the Yellamen lift off.

Kiddy’s equaliser arrived after 32 minutes when Chris Weedon’s cross was met first-time by Brooks’ rising effort, which flew past Grace.

West almost restored Ascot’s advantage but dragged his volley wide, although Grace needed to be alert to block Coyle’s effort moments later.

And Grace rescued Ascot again soon after when he saved Brooks’ penalty after Dave Hancock had handled in the box.

It was a let-off for Lamb’s side, but they failed to make the most of it and fell behind in the 67th minute when West made amends for his miss.

Coyle flicked on a long ball and West was the first to react – firing across Grace and into the back of the net to put the visitors ahead.

The Yellamen had no response and West spurned a chance for his hat-trick late on as the game ended 2-1 to the visitors.

Kiddy then made it two wins against Ascot in three days with a 3-1 home victory in the Hellenic Premier on Tuesday night – inflicting Ascot’s first league defeat since December 2014.

Tommy Castle and Lewis Coyle both scored inside four first-half minutes before Tom Franklin put the hosts 3-0 up in the second half.

Joe Jarra pulled one back for Ascot in the 89th minute but it was too little too late.

Ascot host Highworth Town at the Racecourse this Saturday (3pm) then Flackwell Heath on Tuesday night.
