It was a bright, sunny day and there was a cup final feeling around the ground but Finch failed to play up to the occasion and produced a poor display when it mattered most.

Ross Hunter in the Finch goal had already made one fine save in the opening stages – but he was picking the ball out of his net in the eighth minute.

A free-kick from wide was delivered by Jason Badger and an unsighted Hunter could only watch on as it missed everyone and crept in at the far post.

It was all Westwood early on and Richard Evans had to be alert to clear a shot off the line before Badger grabbed his second of the game in the 24th minute.

A cross found him and he took aim to fire past Hunter and double his own tally as well as the Westwood lead.

There was barely a reply in the first half from Finch, but they improved after the break, albeit not enough to salvage the tie.

Matt Whittle and Dan Baker were looking to make things happen but struggling against a strong and well organised Westwood defence.

Baker was then guilty of a miss of the season candidate when he somehow contrived to fire the ball over the bar from eight yards out with the goal at his mercy.

Finch did eventually get on the scoresheet when Richard Kell headed into an empty net after a defensive mishap with just minutes remaining.

It looked a tough ask for them to grab another goal but they were adamant they should’ve had a penalty when Harry Swabey went down in the area.

The referee was unmoved though and Finch’s hopes of grabbing an undeserved equaliser were dented in added time.

Westwood held on to secure victory and condemn Finch to defeat – though they can have no complaints after a poor performance – while the game was marred by a serious knee injury to Finchampstead player Stuart Manicom.
