They had already secured the Division One title before Dave Carpenter’s deflected strike secured their second trophy of a fantastic season.

Braybrooke were competing in their first ever final against a Sunningdale side from a division above and the difference in quality showed early on, with Sunningdale dominating possession, without properly testing Daniel Osborn in the Braybrooke goal.

Davey Blackmore had the first real chance of the contest but he blazed over the bar after a bobble distracted him.

All Braybrooke’s best work went through Ryan McManus up front and the striker was unlucky when he broke clear down the right and pulled a cross-cum-shot across the face of goal, but no-one in red could get on the end of it.

Sunningdale started to press the game higher up the pitch and were causing problems as they earned a series of corners.

In the 19th minute, they got their reward when a corner wasn’t cleared properly and Carpenter was on hand to stab home – via a deflection – from eight yards out to put Sunningdale ahead.

It was a scruffy goal and set the tone for the rest of the contest which was a niggly affair with chances at a premium.

The closest Braybrooke came was towards the end of the game as Tom Smith saw his shot come back off the bar with Sunningdale keeper Robbie Nicholas beaten.

In the closing minutes Brian Murphy was released by Chris Hollis but as he looked to put the game beyond doubt, Osborn dived at his feet to thwart the attack.

It didn’t matter in the end though as the referee blew his whistle to ensure Sunningdale completed the double.
