Holders Wokingham clinched a 1-0 win at Marlow United in the semi-final on Tuesday night and will now attempt to win the Senior Cup for the fourth year in a row.

It has been a memorable season for Sumas having already won the Hellenic Division One East championship – their first title for more than 30 years.

And Dan Bateman and Matt Eggleston’s side will be keen to add more silverware to the trophy cabinet when they face a Moles team now managed by former boss Roger Herridge.

Sumas knew they were in for a tough test on Tuesday against a Marlow United side that had clinched the Thames Valley Premier League title in recent weeks.

Sumas had also lost to a Thames Valley League team a few weeks ago when they were beaten by Reading YMCA in the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup final.

But Wokingham were not about to let this chance slip through their fingers.

The first half - played in front of a 145-strong crowd - was an even affair, though Sumas were unlucky to see a strong penalty claim turned away when Luke Scope appeared to have been bundled over in the box.

Adam Cooke also saw a header cleared off the Marlow line, though the Buckinghamshire side did threaten a couple of times themselves.

Marlow turtned up the heat in the second half and pinned Wokingham back, but they failed to test Sumas keeper Sean Woodward.

As the half wore on Wokingham became more and more dangerous on the break, with Scope and Jake Butler their usual outlets.

But it was the introduction of Julian Harley that tipped the balance in Wokingham’s favour.

Their reward finally came seven minutes from time when a sweeping move involving George Dance and Harley ended with Scope firing at goal.

The Marlow keeper failed to hold onto the ball and Butler headed it to centre-back James Charlton who scored with a sensational overhead kick.

Wokingham held on to their lead to secure the victory, which was in no small part due to their watertight defence of Mark O’Connell, Jack Gibbs, Will Day, Adam Cooke and Charlton along with keeper Woodward who have conceded one goal in their last 11 games.
